ASAD - 34

Today's Sher has not so much of an intrinsic value, as the historical importance it has. It's a substandard Sher. But ... but it is of importance to this series, as it is from the first "deewaan" ever to be published !! The Shayar was a king of Deccan, Mohammed Quli Qutubshah. Shayari at his time was quite primitive and this is clear from the following Sher.

piyaa baaj pyaalaa piyaa jaaye na
piyaa baaj yak til jiyaa jaaye na
- Mohammed Quli Qutubshah

The local language, Deccani, has a strong influence on this couplet. So if you have any questions, ask Sami. He is from Hyderabad where this language is spoken. :-)

- Abhay.
ASAD _also_ stands for "A Sher A Day" !
