ASAD - 4

Originally posted on rec.music.indian.misc in 1995

GHalib is well-known for his philosophical Shers. But it wasn't his monopoly. Others also managed it quite admirably. Here is one from GHalib's contemporary Shayar, Zauk.

hayaat = life/birth
qazaa = death

laayi hayaat aaye, qazaa le chali, chale
na apani KHushi aaye, na apani KHushi chale

- Zauk

The striking simplicity of this Sher was a hallmark of Zauk's poetry.

- Abhay.
ASAD _also_ stands for "A Sher A Day" !
