ASAD - 35

Very rarely Shers DO NOT contain any Symbolisism. The concepts like "Shama- parwana" are in existence for centuries. But when a Shayar uses unconventional similes, he should be praised for being innovative. This is the 20th century trend in Shayari, where importance is given to using "Symbolic hint" or in Urdu "alaamati ruj'haan".

Here is an amazing example. No difficult words this time :-)

wo to bataa rahaa thaa, bahut door ka safar
zanjeer kheeNch kar, jo musaafir utar gayaa
- Mid'hatul AKHtar

Without explicitly mentioning anything about "loss of a beloved", the Sher manages to hurt you. And that's why this Sher is a great Sher !

- Abhay.
ASAD _also_ stands for "A Sher A Day" !
